The Kennel Club published it's registration figures for 2010 in January 2011. But seeing as I have only just started blogging, I will discuss this topic here and now.
The Labrador Retriever remains Britain's most popular and has been the most popular breed for the last 10 years which is an amazing achievement. Incidentally the Lab is also the USA's most popular breed of dog also.
The 20 most popular dogs as recorded by the Kennel Club is as follows
- Labrador
- Cocker Spaniel
- Springer Spaniel
- German Shepherd Dog
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier
- Border Terrier
- Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
- Golden Retriever
- Pug
- Boxer
- Miniature Schnauzer
- West Highland Terrier
- Shih Tzu
- Lhasa Apso
- Bull Dog
- Whippet
- Yorkshire Terrier
- Beagle
- Dogue De Bordeaux
- Miniature Dachshund (smooth hair)
As you can see my favourite the JRT is not on the list. Not because it is not a popular breed, in my neighbourhood, it has to be one of the most popular breeds. But because the JRT is not accepted by the Kennel Club, so no records exist on my favourite breed. However the JRT is a firm favourite in British homes.
Out of the breeds mentioned above, as a groomer I see the Shih Tzu most often and would expect the Shih Tzu to raise in the rankings
If you are a dog groomer you know that telephone sales are one way to get new clientele and people love to talk about their pets on the phone and to their friends. Since you are a dog groomer you probably have information that is of value to them and they will ask you questions and you can use this as a way to get to know the customer.
